Happy St. Patrick’s day! It’s been a few months since I shared a new green smoothie recipe and what better day than when everyone wears green and pretends to be Irish for a day. ;) I hope you have something fun planned for today. If you traded in one of those “green” beers for this green smoothie I promise you won’t be disappointed.
During the winter and colder months my body does not often crave green smoothies in the morning. Throughout the winter I’ve been enjoying egg tacos with spinach, sweet potato hash with sauteed kale, oatmeal with all kinds of fun fixings or gluten free toast with almond butter and a banana. Lots of yummy breakfasts but now that the heat is back (it was in the high 80’s this past weekend!) so is my appetite for green smoothies.
I wanted to make this green smoothie taste more like a sweet treat than a typical refreshing fruit based green smoothie for St. Patrick’s Day. Raw Cacao powder is the secret ingredient it has this green smoothie tasting more like a milkshake than a green drink. Cacao is the powder that comes from the cacao beans that chocolate is made from but it’s in its pure form without any sugar, dairy or other additives. Cacao is a great addition to any healthy kitchen, this is the brand I’ve been using and loving. If you don’t have some already I totally recommend picking some up and giving this recipe a try it tastes so good, I know you’ll love it!
- 2 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 1/2 cup mint leaves
- 2 heaping Tablespoons of cacao powder
- 1 small handful of spinach
- 3 pitted medjool dates (sweeten to taste you could also use stevia or agave)
- 1 handful of ice
- Add all ingredients in order listed above into blender and blend until liquid!
- Pour into two cups, share and enjoy with a friend!
Do you drink less green smoothies during the winter? Are you as excited as I am for the Spring? I’d love to know! Let’s chat in the comments below.
