I LOVE green smoothies! I love the way they taste and the way they makes me feel. I don’t have any intention of turning SimplyAlyson into a food blog, but I will post recipes from time to time (I hope you enjoy them). I enjoy cooking because being a gluten free vegetarian means you have to get creative in the kitchen to eat healthy. Food is a way we can all have a tangible connection to the earth on a daily basis. Creativity and a connection to the earth make food a great topic for us as we work towards living a stress free eco lifestyle (that’s a post for another day). Today I will start simply with a yummy green smoothie recipe to help us feel great and remind us of our connection to the earth!
Most mornings I start my day with a green smoothie. This one is my go to when I’m not feeling well. I had a cold the week before our vacation to Seattle, so I pulled out all my holistic approaches to healing and feeling better which I’ve written about here. This smoothie I know made a big difference with how quickly I was able to get over my cold and feel great as we boarded the plane to Seattle. Next time you’re feeling under the weather make sure to make yourself this amazing green smoothie and I hope it helps you recover just as quickly as it did me!
Green Grapefruit Smoothie Ingredients
- 1 grapefruit
- 2 cups of water
- 1 Tablespoon of honey (I recommend using local, raw and/or organic)
- 1 Tablespoon of chia seeds
- 1/2 inch of ginger
- 2 big handfuls of organic spinach or your choice of greens
- A few ice cubes
Cut grapefruit in quarters and peal off outer skin. Add all ingredients into a high speed blender in the order listed above and blend for about one minute. Pour and enjoy all the green ginger goodness helping you feel hydrated and energized!
*If you don’t have a high speed blender I recommend making sure to remove all large seeds from the grapefruit and that you grate or finely chop the ginger before adding it. You will also need to blend it for longer then one minute.
I hope you enjoy it! Tell me what you think.
Peace & Love,
